Gas prices crack $4 per gallon, so consumers adapt
Prices at some South Florida gas stations are cracking $4 per gallon and likely will keep rising into April. This month is poised to close as the February with the highest gas prices ever, travel club AAA said. Many consumers already have adapted by saving money elsewhere, often shopping less or dining out less; consolidating errands; budgeting better and carpooling when possible. TD Bank plans Florida growth
Florida is a major growth point for TD Bank, which plans to expand in the Sunshine State. “TD Bank has said it will be a dominant player in all the markets it serves. Final link in Orlando's state road beltway
Work on the $1.7-billion Wekiva Parkway (SR 429) is under way northwest of Orlando, a milestone in developing the final link of a beltway around the urban core. Designed to take pressure off Interstate 4 through downtown Orlando, the costly and complicated project is expected to take at least seven years to complete. Full story.
Middle-class family's fortunes improve since recession
They were a middle-class family in Weston who never expected to be living on food stamps and unemployment benefits. In 2009, Richard and Sheila Tobier lost their 19-year-old business to the recession and were struggling to keep their home. Their 17-year-old daughter Jennifer was the only family member employed, at a local restaurant. About four years later, the Tobiers' situation has nearly turned around.
